We opened a Discovery Sharing/Lending Library on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. The library is located at Quarles Elementary in Room #23. Mrs. Deborah Holt, LBSD Gifted Coordinator, runs the library and opens it every Wednesday from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
All Discovery parents and teachers, as well as regular classroom teachers, are welcome to come in and check out books, teaching kits, videos, magazines, and many other items related to the education of gifted students. We have over 600 items in our Discovery Sharing/Lending Library. You may keep the items you check out for a month, but we do ask that you return the items borrowed so that others may benefit from them.
We are excited about the variety of items offered. We have many nonfiction items related to science, innovation, math, history, and literature. We also have various biographies of many famous scientists, mathematicians, or famous folks in history. We have STEM kits that our Discovery students created last year for the LASSO Expo, and teachers may check these out to have "Science Experiment Center" ready activities for your students to do in the regular classroom!
We have many gifted resources such as Nathan Levy's Stories With Holes, Teach Interact units, Carolyn Coil's Tic-Tac-Toe differentiated activities, and Common Core resources to name a few.
We have several issues of Gifted Child Today and Teaching for High Potential available to check out. These have current research and strategies in dealing with the gifted student.
We are excited to continue adding to our Discovery holdings in our Sharing/Lending library, and we want to share our resources! Contact Mrs. Deborah Holt is you have any questions regarding our library.
